Mackie HR824 studio monitors

I’ve been working with the Mackie HR824 Mk2s for a few years. So it was a no-brainer to write about them.

What is it?

Though I’ve never worked with the original HR824s, I’ve always heard a lot of good things about them. The Mackie HR824 MK2s have been designed to look really good. The smooth curves on the front surface will certainly catch your eye. The 8.75-inch low-frequency driver is powered by a 150-watt amplifier. The high-frequency tweeter is driven by a 100-watt amplifier. The crossover has been tuned to 1.9KHz. The real panel comes with a bunch of controls – input sensitivity, acoustic sensitivity, power mode, high and low-frequency controls. The guys at Mackie encourage you to experiment with them. The monitor also supports multiple methods of balanced and unbalanced inputs.

Who is the Mackie HR824 for?

Music producers, studios, engineers. Anyone who is looking for quality sound.

Style

You’ll surely take a fancy to the sleek new appearance. The power ON lights in the front aren’t too bright so they don’t affect the eyes, and they also double up as overload indicators.

Performance

The low end is smooth without colour. I believe that the Passive Radiator system used is responsible for this. Unlike many other monitors, you won’t find ports or holes for bass reflex. The Mackies use a Passive Radiator system instead. The high frequencies are clear and don’t pierce your ears, so you can listen to these monitors for extended sessions without any problems. I’ve worked on many projects using these monitors with genres ranging from techno to hard rock, hip hop to radio commercials and everything in between, and have never been disappointed.

Mackie HR824 – The Upside

Fantastic monitors with awesome sound.

Downside?

Honestly could find any apart for them being Slightly expensive, even though you do get what you pay for.

Final Call on the Mackie HR824

If you have the budget and an acoustically treated room, buy them.
