Now a solo project by David Sidley, WHYT NOYZ was formed by two best friends in 2010. Hip-hop, funk and soul played formative roles before Sidley discovered house music and developed a passion for techno. Fusing post-minimal techno with live percussive elements, rap samples and high-impact effects, WHYT NOYZ’s is a resolutely contemporary sound, with subtle nods to Sidley’s past as a drummer.
Catching Richie Hawtin’s attention early on made the perfect start to WHYT NOYZ’s career: he was signed to MINUS12 and featured on the Mixmag ‘New Horizons’ compilation. This set Sidley on a fast track into the upper echelons of the scene, with Dubfire signing his ‘Homewerk’ EP to SCI+TEC. Releases and remixes for Octopus Black, KD Music and Terminal M followed. Hawtin signed the act for a full release, and gave their tracks heavy rotation at ENTER during the 2013 Ibiza season.
The ongoing success of Sidley’s partnership with Minus led to another EP, ‘It Grows’, and a string of tour dates supporting Hawtin across the world. Sidley’s sets continue to garner rave reviews, with bookings at Suicide Circus and Le Tunnel, and in Glasgow, Toulouse, Montpellier, Amsterdam and Bonn, to name a few. WHYT NOYZ currently has a debut album, ‘Shapes’, in the works.
