Panasonic used their official CES 2016 press conference in Las Vegas to give the world the first look at the new models of the direct-drive turntable. The iconic turntable has been a cornerstone of electronic music and DJ culture for decades and today’s launch will no doubt further enhance our industry’s romanticism for the beloved 1200.
Two versions of the direct-drive turntable are being scheduled for release. To mark Technics’ 50th Anniversary, a limited edition Grand Class SL-1200GAE model will arrive in Summer 2016 with production limited to just 1200 units. Later in 2016 the non-limited Grand Class SL-1200G model will be released. Prices were not disclosed although it is generally accepted that the models will not come cheap.
