The founding member of the electronic/techno group Jalebee Cartel, Arjun Vagale is fully aware of the taxing demands of a performing artiste, especially a DJ, in India. So, when his brother Nakul decided to establish an academy to help aspiring DJs and audio engineers in India, he swiftly jumped on the board.

Looking at a DJing career? This academy in Gurgaon is your answer – India Today

“When Nakul started the school in Bangalore, I was totally on board with him and the team to push forward the cause of electronic music education. It was a way of giving back and showing aspiring producers how to do it right,” he says. His brother, Nakul, adds, “The academy started as a one-room DJ school in Bengaluru in 2007. We saw a lack of professionally trained DJs at the time, as most DJs back then learned on the job, which allowed a lot of room for error. We found experienced and active DJs in the industry to teach students and we had an insight into the hospitality business which allowed us to structure a course based on actual demand.”

They were already making waves in Bengaluru, but moving to Delhi-NCR and Arjun’s direct involvement says Nakul, “allowed us to rapidly establish I Love Music Academy as the go-to electronic music school in India. Finding the right faculty to get us there was a challenge, as Arjun hand-picked each faculty member when we started the Gurgaon-based academy.”

Their faculty consists of artists and engineers who are still active in the music industry, which gives the students a unique perspective into the world they’ll come to occupy. “A host of artists have shown us support,” says Nakul, “from international acts such as Drum-cell, Christian Smith, Macromism, Tom Swoon, Markus Schulz to the cream of the Indian electronic music scene such as Midival Pundits, Dualist Enquiry, BLOT!, Sound Avtar and Kohra, many have conducted workshops for us. In fact, we just did a workshop with Kerano, one of India’s newest stars in the making.”

"Students come from all walks of life and all age groups. We get lawyers, doctors, pilots, army officer, models, radio/TV personalities, engineers, business man, college and school students. So it's definitely a mixed crowd,' adds Nakul. To give this mixed crowd of students an even wider perspective on music, the academy has partnered with San Francisco-based music production school Pyramind. The academy also offers financial aid packages to deserving applicants.
